Memo center tutoral!

Holy cow! My second post in 3 days!! As I was packing up orders Sunday sitting on the floor in a mess of labels, tape boxes and tissue paper I decided that I needed to make a shipping area in my room! I had the space for it, I just need to organize a bit more! In my process I decided to make a memo center. I always have my orders laying around in a pile. So I gathered my thoughts, got some wood and went to work!
I started with a plain piece of scrap wood from the garage, 25" long. I painted it and let dry.
I then added some label holders that I had and hooks for my clipboard. I pre drill the hole 7" in on each end, then they easily screw in. Just make sure to make the hole slightly smaller than the screw so it doesn't slip out!

Next I added cork, just for small items like receipts, coupons, memos etc! I bought cork tiles, cut them to the right side and glued them in place. I also added some cute decorative tacks that I found at Target!
Last I placed 2 eyelets in the top, one on each end about 1" in and used twine to hang it up!
Now its time to hang it up! I had the perfect place right below a framed picture my youngest drew for me for mothers day!

I also moved some things in my cabinet to store boxes and hung a heavy duty curtain rod to store my tissue paper on, its great buying in bulk, as long as you have a place to keep it! :)
Everything I need to ship packages is now at my finger tips! My back will be so happy!
I covered this cute little clipboard too, its my weekly list. I always write this out on paper, that gets buried in burlap.

Its so great when a plan comes together and my total cost, $5.00. I used almost all stuff I already had on hand!
Now-back to filling orders!
Thanks for stopping by!

I love custom orders!

Sorry I have been gone for so long! I made some burlap pumpkins this year and well, they took me by surprise and have been selling like crazy! So thank you to all of my wonderful customers who have been keeping me so busy! Its been so much fun!

The thing I love most about having a shop on ETSY is the special orders I get from customers! I work with the nicest people! These special orders often inspire me to make new things or just gives me a better idea for what I was already doing! I thought I would share some of my most recent special orders!

This customer has a child with a Halloween birthday, so she asked for a banner with Happy BOOday! I just love this!! It will be so great at her party!
Another recent request was for a tree skirt! I had made the snowman one, but never thought to add moose! Perfect for that log cabin or a cozy woodsy feeling home!
I have so much fun making these special orders! So if you are looking for something specific, I am your girl!
I can not believe its already time for tree skirts and stockings! I made a new design today with the help of my little buddy!
I love that yesterday he was outside bow hunting and today he learned how to make ruffles! We made a lot of them! I made this ombre red ruffle skirt, thinking about making one in greys and one in blues. I struggled taking the pics of this one, the two reds at the top are quite different, but no matter what I did, they look very similar in the picture.
With tree skirt making in full swing, it wont be long before I need to put up one of the trees, an artificial one of course! But I need it for my pictures! I will try to blog more, I'm going to shoot for once a week! So I will see you all soon! Thank you for stopping by!!

New Craft Room!!

I think I have wanted to make my craft room bigger since the day we built our house! Well that was 7 years ago now and I was finally able to make it happen! The room next to my craft room really no longer had a purpose. Its been storage, a play room, a photo room, a junk room so it was time to make it more useful! With a little bit of help from my hubby we were able to make it happen!

This is my before, now I know that I already had a pretty nice space, however with my growing ETSY business I needed more room! There was even more stuff packed into this room since this photo was taken! I was feeling like the burlap was taking over!

Here are the 2 rooms before!

The wall has been cut!

Time to remove the carpet from both rooms! Now that's a job!

But the new floor is so worth it! My vacuum will be so happy!

Are you ready to see the finished room?

Here it is!! It looks the same from this angle, but keep looking, so much has changed!

I made a custom ironing board. Its 2' x 4'! The cover is removable so I can easily wash it.

Had to pick some flowers from the garden!

Here is the other 1/2! I can't believe the difference!

I also re-covered this chair and I made the ottoman with plans from Anawhite.com. It was super easy!

My kids painting supplies!

I now have a closet to keep burlap and all of my sweaters in, each bin is a different color of sweaters!

This is a great little corner to sit and relax!

Thanks for stopping by and looking at my room! I can't wait to sew in here!

Life can change in an instant

Everyone says it, "life can change in an instant" but you never really know what that truly means until it actually happens to you. I will never forget that day in May, the sound in my husbands voice telling me that his brother had been killed. I was at work, enjoying the company picnic that day and then I had gone to workout class. I had no idea what was going on until I saw a missed call and I called him back.
The rest of that week feels like a blur, even though I remeber everything so vividly. My bother in law was an amazing man and loved by many. Our family is devestated by this tragic loss.
Our life now is consisting of a court hearings and a possible trial. Nothing I ever imagined we would be going through. Everything still seams so sureal.

Even though it is hard at times, life needs to go on. There are now more good than bad, it seems like the bad comes in more moments than entire days. But we are trying to enjoy life. The kids finshed school, my oldest son graduated from High School, we still had birthday parties, and summer BBQ's.
We have taken more time to spend with family and friends. You really do realize what is important and that petty little things really don't matter because life can change in an instant.

We recently celebrated what would have been his 47th birthday. It was a wonderful celebration of his life and we were surrounded by family and friends.
The day had been dreary and rainy. I had planned to light off 47 purple lanterns in my brother in laws memory, we had invited tons of family and friends to help us celebrate. All day I just kept saying that it would be nice for our celebration, there was just no other option!
In the afternoon, I was looking out my window and the grey cloudy sky, I decided to ask Terry to help us out and clear things up for his party. After I spoke to him, I had my back turned and within seconds, litterally seconds, I felt the warmth of the sun on my back. I slowly turned and could not believe my eyes. It was solid grey clouds and now a clearing right above my house and the sun was shining!
I went to the back door to take a photo, and this is what I captured. My brother in law was an avid fisherman, and once I saw the fish shaped cloud, I knew that he made this happen. I was in awe of this all afternoon I could not stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks. Moments later this was gone and the sky was grey once again. But later that night at his party, the skys cleared again and we were able to light the lanterns one at a time just as we had planned.
We played "See you again" by Carrie Underwood.
It was an emotional night for all of us, but very theraputic at the same time.
We all miss him like crazy and it's hard to imagine life with out a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend.
So when I tell you that life can change in an instant, trust me, life is too short. Don't wait, make the most of every day, with the people that mean the most to you.

I made a video of our night, if you would like you can view it on YOU TUBE 47 Purple Lanterns

What to do with burlap?

I was in Minneapolis last week and was able to make a stop at the caribou coffee corporate office and get some burlap! The green coffee beans are shipped from all over the world to be roasted in these burlap bags. You can find many different prints on the burlap depending on where it is from. So I stocked up, and filled my car!

These are some of the prints that I was able to get!

This weekend I made some stuff with my new burlap!
Tote bags:

The tote below was a special request from a friend. The burlap did not have this on it, I printed it from the computer onto and iron on transfer. This was the result!

I also made a table runner:

And started designing my 2013 Holiday stockings! after last year, I know that I need to start much sooner!

That's it for today! I am hoping that I can find some time this week to get more stuff made!
